Located in the middle of the Florida Keys, in the upscale neighborhood of Lower Matecumbe Key, this historic four bedroom, five bath home; with 4,000 square feet of living area, offers you the ability to relax, entertain and enjoy the many recreational activities found here.  It is the ideal home for extended families due to majority of living space being on the ground level.  We are also a pet friendly property!

 

The Last Resort has overwhelming views of the Atlantic, large open verandahs, 165 feet of private sandy beach and a 15 x 30 foot seaside heated swimming pool, all on over one acre of private tropical land. (MM 76.7)  The property also boasts a 37 foot private concrete dock on the canal adjacent to house.

Both homes have wide covered front and back porches and are ideal for outdoor entertaining and relaxing. The rear verandahs overlook breath-taking ocean views, palm trees and white sand beaches, while the front verandahs overlook beautiful tropical landscaped gardens. Our vacation homes take full advantage of the stunning views of the blue & turquoise Ocean as far
as the eye can see.

Book early! Both our homes are sometimes reserved years in advance.

As owners, we have spent 20 years providing the best possible Keys experience for guests. Michele handles the day-to-day operation of The Last Resort and ensures that guests have everything needed for a stress-free vacation. We believe that guests should not have to worry about ‘extra or hidden’ charges so our rates INCLUDE many of the things other vacation rentals charge for such as pool heat, BBQ gas, kayaks, and baby equipment. Though the property is self-catering we supply many household items so you don’t have to worry about purchasing them, such as laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, garbage bags, kitchen paper, cleaning fluids, etc.

 

We also don’t charge a security deposit or pet fee. We operate on the honor & integrity system, giving our guests an authentic Keys experience that keeps them returning year after year as repeats. You must be 25 years or older to both either of these homes.

From years of international travel with our kids one of my pet peeves was the amount of equipment that I had to pack, just to go on vacation. Another was arriving at houses that were sparsely stocked or having to rent additional equipment. Greg and I made the commitment to provide as many supplies and equipment for our guests, from all kitchen equipment to baby equipment, from hairdryers & straighteners to lifejackets and water shoes, all to minimize the need for guests to stuff their suitcases and truly make it a pack your shorts, flip-flops & toothbrush’ kind of experience.

 

The Last Resort is truly in a beautiful setting and we look forward to the opportunity to host you, your family, and your friends someday.

 

Our most recent addition in 2021 is the truly stunning and newly named “The Last Resort Too”. As our guest families have been coming to The Last Resort for over a decade, naturally their own families have grown. Greg and I have been looking for the perfect home to accommodate larger groups for about 15 years. In finding this home, we have kept with the theme of an ultra-private compound for multi-generational families that allow people to exhale with relaxation on arrival. The Last Resort Too is about 300 yards north of The Last Resort and sits on 2 oceanfront acres and has 6 bedrooms.

 

We look forward to this new venture, welcoming larger families and their friends, looking to make precious vacation memories.

  • If I could give this property ten stars, I would certainly do it!

    We just returned from a two week stay at The Last Resort. This was our fourth stay at this property and I have to say it gets better every trip. The owners take so much care to be sure that everything you will need is at the home. Their constant upgrades impress me with every return trip, and their eye for quality in materials used and appointments provided, are beyond comparison. Having rented many homes in the Florida Keys over the years, this property is by far the best. I always refer to The Last Resort as having the triad. It has a large pool, a boat dock across from the house, and a sandy beach. This is very hard to find in the Keys, but find it we did! Many home rentals have a pool and a canal, but the morning sunrise views from the ocean front porch will have you up early with coffee every time. The owners of this property are very accessible if you have any need, and they are just a text away.

  • We had a wonderful time

    We had a wonderful time at the Last Resort the week of Thanksgiving. The ocean is right out the back door and the pool is so warm. The deck by the pool is massive and offers sun or shade at almost all times. We loved the beach cruiser bikes, a great distraction for the kids. There is a bike path accessible within a block. The home was perfectly suited for a multi family vacation. We took the upstairs, it suited our family of 6 perfectly. The kitchen is very well stocked and having 2 washers/dryers was more appreciated than I expected. Location is great, lots to do and plenty of great lunch spots close by. Michele was wonderful to deal with and always quick to reply to questions. We will be back.

  • By far the best experience we ever had!

    Our family has stayed at many different VRBO properties, some even in Islamorada, and this is by far the best experience we ever had! The home had everything our family, including our two year old granddaughter, could need. Michele & Greg have thought of every detail, large & small, to make guests feel at home & to make their vacation easy & relaxing. The home is beautiful & the location is outstanding. We had big plans to venture around & do different activities, but other than some dinners out we just found ourselves never wanting to leave the house, pool & awesome beach. Having coffee on the fantastic back porch in your rocker while your granddaughter plays in the sand in her pajamas can’t be topped! We hope to return & bring even more family!
