28 Apr The Last Resort, and The Last Resort Too, and I am hear to tell you that she goes ABOVE & BEYOND!!!
I just wanted to start off by saying what an incredible hostess Michele is!!! I have stayed in both of her Islamorada properties now, The Last Resort, and The Last Resort Too, and I am here to tell you that she goes ABOVE & BEYOND!!! She has been so gracious and helpful to me in answering questions, helping to fulfill requests, and providing insight into the area and all it has to offer. She is simply AMAZING!!! And so too are both of her homes in Islamorada! You know what they say about LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION—well, both of these homes have it!
Our first stay was at The Last Resort. We went with 2 other families (6 adults and 6 kids total) and had everything we needed. The property itself is stunning! We had everything we needed right there, so we barely left the property (except our husbands to fish!). The beach has real sand, which is hard to find in the Keys, and we had plenty of kayaks for everyone to use at once. The kids alternated between the kayaks and the pool, which is right next to the house and beach—perfect set up. Michele has plenty of bikes for everyone to ride down to Robbie’s together. We all enjoyed coffee on the porch in the mornings and drinks there in the evenings. The new kitchen had everything we needed and the set up with 2 washers and 2 dryers made it easy to keep up with fresh towels and clothes for our crew. Bedrooms all had plenty of space and the beds were super comfortable. The house itself is full of history, so make sure to read about it while you’re there. Not every day that you get to stay in a home where a past president has stayed!
Our most recent trip to Islamorada was just a few weeks ago and we were so lucky to have experienced Michele’s new home, The Last Resort Too. It is magnificent as well and HUGE! With 6 bedrooms and 6.5 baths, 2 kitchens and 2 places to do laundry, we had more than enough room. Front yard is beautifully landscaped and so lush! The waterfront and view are just as gorgeous as The Last Resort, with lots of soft white sand and nice observation dock with a ladder (you can see Indian Key and also see Alligator Reef Lighthouse). Michele, has added lots of additional amenities to enjoy out there too—hammock, kayaks, 2 standup paddle boards (which she was so generous to provide when I inquired about renting paddle boards), fishing poles, bacci ball, corn hole, a fire pit, etc. Hard to say who enjoyed all of those things more—the kids or the adults! The pool sits right next to the house and the beach, so it was perfect and Michele keeps plenty of beach towels on hand. There’s also a nice, little screened-in porch with a table and chairs adjacent to the open porch—great place to have breakfast or play cards in the evening. And if you’re playing cards, there is a fold-up poker tabletop to lay across the dining table, lots of decks of cards and chips—everything you need for a night of fun! The bedrooms in this house are really spacious and everyone has there own bathroom, which is so nice. The guest suite, which is attached to the house by the wraparound porch was great for our group because it provided a separate living room area that our guys utilized as a work/office area (between bouts of fishing, of course). It was so nice to have the 2nd full-sized refrigerator and kitchen in there to utilize as well.
Both houses are walking distance to Robbie’s, an easy drive to Publix and lots of restaurants and shops. Lower Matecumbe is our favorite area of Islamorada because it is so easy to access everything, yet when you’re staying in either of Michele’s houses you still feel like you’re at your own little private resort. It’s hard to come by houses that are spacious enough for big groups, have private “real” beaches with sand and ocean access, and are every bit as nice inside as they are outside—best of both worlds and everything you could ask for on vacation! If you’re like us, you’ll find it hard to leave either of Michele’s homes! We cannot wait to return…!!!
